Thyme

     Thyme grows in many, many varieities all over the world. It was used in ancient Egypt to make embalming fluid.  Also, Romans used it to purify the air, and in the Middle Ages drinking it was said to help one to see fairies.

Other Easiest grown from cuttings, or divided roots, not very easy from seed; GROWS BEST IN ZONES THROUGH 5; in the south, struggles with aphids potentially; they love dry conditions; Trim after flowering to prevent it becoming woody and stringy

Thyme

NUTRITIONAL VALUE

* High in iron
* High in manganese
* Contains a variety of flavonoids, which act as antioxidants & reduce free radicals in the body.
* Also contains calcium & fiber.
* High in vitamin K.

EDIBLE USES

* Herbal tea.
* Excellent addition to salads, pasta dishes, guacamole, and more.

GARDENING USES

* Ground cover
* Drought tolerant
* Can be used to kill mosquito larvae

MEDICINAL USES

* Antiseptic (thymol) & cleanses mouth (used in Listerine)
* Antibacterial
* Pound the fresh flowers, blend with honey/syrup & this treats whooping cough.
* Aids digestion & relieves gassy intestines.
* Treatment for parasites.
* Cough, cold, flus.
* A few drops added to your bathwater helps to relieve rheumatic pain.

HARVESTING THE FLOWERS

* Cut both flowers & leaves
* Hang them to dry them if desired.
* Store in glass jars in a cool, dry place.
